This is a Ruck event to honor our Veterans. Rucking is simply walking with a weighted backpack, similar to the marches that are such an integral part of military training. You will don your backpacks and march in Honor of, or in Memory of, a veteran in your life. Your race bib will have a blank line on it for you to write in the name of the Veteran of whom you are walking in Honor or in Memory. You will be able to select either the one mile, five mile, or ten mile March and there is even a team category. The ten mile category is the competitive category. If you choose to compete, you must weigh in with a minimum of 25lbs in the backpack. If a child chooses to compete, the weight is only 10lbs. You can choose any type of weight to put in the pack, but we would like to suggest items to be donated to our mission to the homeless. Needed items would be hygeine items, sun screen, bug spray, minor first aid supplies, ready to eat foods, or even bottles of gatorade. We will be having an event in June to hand these items out to all who need them. This event can be classified as an endurance event, a walk, or a fitness event but we like to think of it as an opportunity to Honor our Veterans by walking a mile --or ten-- in their boots.
Teams can consist of no less than four and no more than ten people who register as a team. It is not necessary to register each team member, just the team and its captain. As with our brave service men and women, there is no man left behind. You will start as a team and you must finish as a team with all members accounted for. If the team is competing, the team must share an additional 25lb weight (of their own design) that will be carried by the team thoughout the March.
There will be additional challenges at each rest stop along the way that you are welcome to participate in but they are not required for competition. We will have prizes for individuals who complete the most challenges. Competition categories include first and second place overall, first and second place in Teams, first and second kids, most weight overall, and most weight overall for a Team.
Registration includes a Tshirt, medal, race bib, and a meal ticket at the Mess Hall for packet pickup on Friday evening. Packet Pick up will be from 6-8pm Friday, May 19th. If you have not registered, there will be an additional $5 cost to register at the event. Tshirt sizes and availability cannot be guaranteed if you register later than May 1, 2023. The Mess Hall meal tickets are available to non-registrants for $10 adults, $5 children 3-12 years of age and children under 3 will be able to eat free.
